Overview of Curriculum Builder

A.D.A.M. Interactive Anatomy (AIA) includes a curriculum integration and authoring tool called Curriculum Builder. (A.D.A.M. Interactive Anatomy Curriculum Builderâ„¢ is a trademark of A.D.A.M., Inc.)

A curriculum can be used to hold a limited amount of closely related content on a single topic (such as an individual online lecture) or to hold a series of related curriculum files on a wider range of topics (such as each weekly lecture for a multi-week anatomy course). When a curriculum is used as a container for a number of other curriculum files, the collection is referred to as an iGuide.

Note: Although any AIA user can open and view a curriculum, Curriculum Builder authoring features are available only in the Instructor Version of AIA.
Curriculum Builder lets you link your own text to a series of images - from the A.D.A.M. anatomical image database or from your own collection - to create course materials, student presentations, laboratory exercises, and custom communication tools.
A.D.A.M. content linked through a curriculum is much more compelling than dry, static pictures. The full viewing capabilities of AIA - dissection, rotation, zoom, highlight, and structure identification - remain with every linked image.

Flexible and easy-to-use, Curriculum Builder is a valuable complement to other presentation and authoring tools. Curriculum Builder lets you integrate your curriculum to create a directed learning path for the exchange of anatomical content and ideas.
Note: For the latest information about Curriculum Builder, visit the A.D.A.M. Interactive Anatomy home page at http://adameducation.com/aiaonline_instructor.

Creating a New Curriculum

You can create a curriculum to cover a limited amount of closely related content on a single topic (such as an individual online lecture) or to hold a series of related curriculum files on a wider range of topics (such as each weekly lecture for a multi-week anatomy course). When a curriculum is used as a container for a number of other curriculum files, the collection is referred to as an iGuide.

To create a new curriculum:

On the File menu, click New Curriculum.

If you have not already done so, open the A.D.A.M. Interactive Anatomy content (dissectible anatomy views, atlas anatomy images, 3D anatomy models, clinical illustrations, or clinical animations) to be included with this slide.

If necessary, use the tools for each type of content to display the view(s) you want to show on the slide. (For example, you can dissect to a specific layer and highlight a structure in dissectible anatomy, click a pinhead to highlight it in atlas anatomy, rotate a 3D model, or annotate an image.)

Arrange the content windows as you want a user to view them.
Tip: As you arrange windows for each slide, remember that some users may not have the same size monitor or may use a different screen resolution. As a general rule, design for lower resolutions.

Type the name for the slide in the Slide Title text box on the Curriculum Text Slide.

Type any comments or notes to be associated with the slide in the Notes area in the Curriculum Text Slide box.

Click the Capture Content button to record the anatomy content for this slide. Curriculum Builder captures the positions, sizes, and states of all open A.D.A.M. Interactive Anatomy windows.
Note: The Capture Content button captures only those windows opened from A.D.A.M. Interactive Anatomy. The Capture Content button also captures the position, size, and state of the Curriculum window itself.

Click the Add Slide button; then repeat steps 2 through 7 for each additional slide you want to create.

Click Save on the File menu to name and save the curriculum.

Before closing the curriculum, click the Properties button to enter Title, Author, and Summary information.
Note: You can also lock the curriculum to help prevent users from accidentally changing content. Wait to lock the curriculum until you are ready to distribute it to other users.
